Chartered accounting
A week of EOY queries, cut to hours with AI.
At a Brisbane-based chartered accounting firm, the end-of-financial-year client query process used to take a week per accountant. Manual, high-volume, repeated across the entire client base. It now runs as a semi-automated Claude Cowork workflow: an accountant reviews every email, the grunt work is gone. Alongside it, 50+ staff (directors included) were trained on AI using the firm's own workflows, and were using it on real client work the same day.
The client
A Brisbane-based chartered accounting firm. In-office Brisbane staff plus an offshore team.
The brief: get the whole firm using AI on real client work, and automate four of their most repetitive, deadline-driven workflows.
How it worked
Two half-days on site with the directors. Day one: discovery. Overnight: the Cowork skills were built. Day two: test and iterate on the firm's own files, set up Cowork for the organisation, plan the training.
Then a half-day, in-person session at the firm's Brisbane office. Brisbane staff in the room, offshore staff on video, recording available after. Prep covered remote-experience checks, an approval process for AI skills, new-login setup, Teams readiness, and skill-name verification, so the tools worked the moment training ended. A post-training Q&A and support period followed.

Inside the EOY query skill
- 01 Pulls last year's EOY records from SharePoint (tax return, financials, prior request and query emails) as a scaffold
- 02 Reviews each client's Xero file: bank reconciliations to 30 June, current-year balance sheet against prior year, by entity
- 03 Flags balance-sheet movements that need supporting documentation, and skips items that never need querying (depreciation, ATO accounts, GST, PAYG withholding, super payable)
- 04 Drafts the initial query email in the firm's tone, mirroring last year's wording so clients see consistency
- 05 Runs a follow-up cadence of up to three reminders, then flags unresolved items for human review
